HarareYangu is a citizen-centred initiative that seeks to promote inclusive and equitable urban governance in Harare so as to ensure quality public service delivery.

                                                                                                                        BACKGROUND

Africa is currently experiencing the world's fastest urbanization rate, placing increasing pressure on resource constrained municipalities to maintain and improve livability standards of their cities. Harare is no exception of this trend, with a current population of over 2 million inhabitants for a city that was planned for less than 1 million people. This has led to the emergency of illegal settlements, environmental degradation, social insecurity, and poor municipal service delivery in the process affecting the quality of urban life for the majority. This has  however been compounded by poor urban governance due to limited citizen participation in city affairs. Governance is not working as well as it could - and should be. Governance works for some, but not for everyone. Governance works sometimes, but not always. Against this background, HarareYangu bridges the gap of inaction between the citizens and city bureaucrats by providing a platform in which all see better governance as a joint responsibility that all are able and want to take part in.
